Free Yourself

Writer: Robin BourdeauRobin Bourdeau

We began a new round of yoga teacher training this past week, and it took me back to when I attended teacher training myself. We were introduced to Yamas and Niyamas, which I internalized as principles for living. The first of the Yamas, Ahimsa, is freedom from harming or non-violence. While this is a moral restraint, an outward behavior, I find it is equally important to apply internally.

How often are you your own worst enemy? What thoughts or statements replay in your mind that deflate you? I am not good enough. I am not smart enough. I am not strong enough. I can’t do this. These repeating thoughts may be deeply rooted in you, but you can change them.

Pay careful attention to your thoughts this week. Spend some time identifying and writing down those that consistently come up. With simple exchanges, you can turn belittling thoughts into powerful motivators.

For example - “I am not good enough” becomes “I AM good enough.” Repeat this positive statement frequently. Tell yourself with conviction in front of the mirror that you ARE good enough. You ARE strong enough. You ARE…..

YOU CAN!!!
